Plants are producers, so they make their own food. They make their food through photosynthesis. And to use that energy, they also perform cellular respiration. They can also pass on the carbon through the food chain when they are eaten by animals. Therefore, contributing to the carbon cycle. Photosynthesis: 6CO2+6H2O—>C6H12O6+6O2
Respiration: C6H12O6+6O2—>6CO2+6H2O

They use photosynthesis to turn co2 into c6h12o6 and then they use cellular respiration which is the exact opposite.

because when animals eat the plants, the energy from the plant is transferred to the animal. Then, when the animals break down the food to release energy, carbon is returned to the air as carbon dioxide or CO2

Cellular respiration: Glucose + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy (ATP)
C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O + 2900 KJ
Photosynthesis: Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight → Glucose + Oxygen
6CO2 + 12H2O + Light Energy → C6H12O6 + 6O2
Decomposition: CO2
